Nancy Fritts Riggs
I was at MacArthur for only my junior and senior years. I completed three semesters work at Millikin University, and earned BA and MA degrees in Journalism at Sangamon State/University of Illinois Springfield.
I met and married Lee Riggs while he was serving in the U.S. Army, and we have two wonderful daughters, one grandson and one granddaughter. We live in Mt. Zion. Lee is retired from A.E. Staley/Tate & Lyle, Decatur.
I covered state government and wrote travel features for Mattoon Journal Gazette. I was a national agricultural science writer for Moose River Media and its succeeding ownerships, covering southwestern fruit and vegetable research and production, and was a science writer in the National Sea Grant College Program at University of Illinois Urbana. I retired from UI, returned to ag reporting, and was an adjunct writing instructor. Professional organizations included Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) and Agricultural Communicators in Education (ACE). I retired from reporting in 2017.
We enjoy Southwest travel. Fully covid vaccinated and with careful precautions, we connected with our grandson in spring 2021 in southern California, and celebrated an early family Christmas with him in Boulder CO. We love watching our granddaughter’s equestrian participation and high placing in the Chicago region.
